Heron Tower

The Heron Tower is a skyscraper that is located in the City of London in the United Kingdom. It is also commonly referred to as 110 Bishopsgate, referring to the skyscraper’s address. It is considered as the tallest building in the City of London and the 3rd tallest building in London as a whole. The building is owned by Heron International.

Heron International History

Plans for constructing the building started somewhere in the early 2000. It was planned to be standing at a height of 183 meters which was the same height as the tallest building at that time, the Tower 42. There was some controversy during its planning as some groups expressed concerns of its close proximity from St. Paul’s Cathedral which might obscure its view. But eventually, after a public inquiry, construction of the building was approved in July 2002.

But despite the approval given, it took another 3 years before actual construction o the skyscraper ever took place. A new plan submitted by the Heron Property Corporation in 2005 revised the plan to build a 202-meter or 663-feet tower instead. It is also to have a 28-meter or 92-feet mast which extends its total height to 230 meters or 755 feet. Only the height was revised as the original design of the skyscraper was retained with just some refinements. The new revised plan was approved in 2006 by the City of London Corporation.
