The JW Marriott Marquis Dubai is an imposing twin tower complex located at the central business district of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. It houses the 1,608-room hotel managed by Marriot International. Standing 355 meters or 1,165 feet tall, it is currently the world’s tallest hotel building.
JW Marriott Marquis Dubai History
The tower project is owned by The Emirates Group, which owns the Emirates Airline. The building project was first conceived as a 350-meter or 1,150-feet tall 77-storey tower to be built alongside the main Sheikh Zayed Road and completed in 2008. However, plans to extend the man-made Dubai Creek nearby require some changes in the design and location of the said project.
In 2006, a new twin-tower design with a height of 395 meters or 1,296 feet was presented. A later redesign required some modifications in shape and a decrease in height to 355 meters or 1,165 feet. Construction on the towers started in 2006. Tower 1 was completed in 2012 while Tower 2 was completed a year later.
