Fountain Place is a 62-story skyscraper located in the Arts District in Dallas, Texas. It is the fifth tallest building in the city and currently the 15th tallest in the state of Texas. It is considered as one of the city’s famous most recognizable buildings due to its unique architecture.
Fountain Place History
The skyscraper was built from 1984 to 1986. It was designed by Architect Henry Cobb of I.M. Pei and Partners. It was initially designed to be composed of two towers. But the economic collapse experienced in the state during the 80’s has caused the project to be left unfinished. Its name Fountain Place was derived from the existence of 172 dancing bubbler fountains located in the plaza at the base of the building.
Fountain Place Features
Fountain Place stands 220 meters or 720 feet tall. It comprises of 62 stories with one level underground. Its design was based on a diagonal of a double square. It has that look of a large, multi-faceted prism of blue glass and steel. The unique architecture of the Fountain Place gives it a completely different profile when viewed from different directions, thanks to its slanted sides. Fountain Place also has the distinction of being the tallest building in the world to be glazed with four-sided structural silicone.
